An Old Vancouver Reel put the Second Narrows disaster back in circulation. The core event is real and central to B.C. labour/engineering memory. The careful part is the source trail: the Instagram caption says 19 died, while the recovered newsreel audio says 18.

What the Reel says
The visible caption says that on June 17, 1958, two spans of Vancouver’s Second Narrows Bridge collapsed during construction, sending 79 workers into Burrard Inlet and killing 19 people. The recovered audio is older newsreel-style narration and says first one span, then another dropped into the water while rescuers and frogmen searched the wreckage.
The transcript also says the structure was a $16-million project and gives a final count of “18 dead” and 20 injured. NewsForBC is preserving both numbers because the source trail contains both.
